This shade grown, eco-friendly coffee was cultivated and processed on the Mondul Estate in Northern Tanzania. The perfect growing conditions of the area and the modern processing facilities of the estate, produce a clean cup. Full of clementine sweetness, the taste is balanced by black tea and mild honeysuckle.
Tasting Notes
The flat bottom of this handy brewer is the key to making a consistently delicious cup, forcing water to reach all crevices of the ground coffee and developing a richer flavor along the way.
The Mondul Estate is part of the historic Burka Coffee Estate. Established in 1899, it is among Tanzania’s oldest specialty coffee producers. The estate is located on the slopes of Mount Monduli where the high altitude, volcanic soil, shade, and climate are perfect for coffee cultivation.
Since 2007 Mondul has been undergoing a large renovation project and is now considered to be one of the most modern, sustainable, and responsibly managed farms in Northern Tanzania. The company strives to balance traditional methods with new technology while respecting the land and natural resources. To ensure excellent and consistent quality, Mondul built a modern cupping kitchen. Tasters assess the harvest every day and their feedback helps to further improve the coffee.
The Mondul Estate is focused on offering fair employment conditions and paying workers at least 20% over the minimum wage. Every permanent member of staff lives in a community on the estate. Employees and their families have free and secure onsite housing, medical services, pension lands, sports facilities, and free schooling.
