Chemex Wood Collar Brewer

The Chemex is our preferred brew method at Red Rooster Coffee Roaster and easily brews up enough for 2 or 3 people. Made simply from non-porous glass, it brews coffee without imparting any flavors of its own. On permanent display at MOMA NY and other fine museums, it is truly a work of art. The Chemex Coffeemaker has remained unchanged for 70 years and is still manufactured at company headquarters in Western Massachusetts. Uses Pre-folded Filters, sold separately.
Details
- Brews beautifully with Ethiopia, Farmhouse, light roasts
- Ratio - 1:16 (~45 grams of coffee beans to get 780 grams of coffee)
- Grind - Pour Over
- For use with Chemex Bonded Pre-folded Filters
- Grind 50g coffee at a medium-coarse setting and place in filter.
- Saturate the grounds with 80ml of hot water, then rest.
- After 30 seconds, pour the remaining 700ml in slow, concentric circles. Pause when water reaches top of the brewer and continue once it is almost empty, but not dry.
- Allow the brewed coffee to drain, clean the filter, and enjoy.
Chemex
Form meets function in the classically beautiful Chemex brewer. Grind size is critical when brewing with this method since the brew bed can get large. Use a coarser grind to experience bright and floral fruit notes.
